Things will not be the same for the travel business. The hotel industry is also sensing more coming tremors. The industry is doing some navel gazing and responding simultaneously.
“We are delighted that the India government has set up a MICE fund under the Champion Sector in Services Scheme (CSSS) which couldn’t have come at a better time. We had pursued this for a long time. Ministry of Tourism has made India us the nodal agency for steering and promoting the scheme and we will motivate Indian Travel Planners, Societies and Associations towards publicising it. We would recommend the inclusion of additional events such as weddings, and corporate events and also strive to bring other associations under the umbrella of the scheme. ICPB shall continue to remain the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme."
“There is nothing like a crisis to show the mettle of our executives. We had limited online tools to support widespread cancellations and our call volume spiked 500%. Under extraordinary pressure, our tech teams built new tools, and managed to bring our call centre capacity to acceptable levels.
Cutting our costs everywhere, announcing additional financing- without exception, none of our team have been found wanting. We've learned such an enormous amount over these almost five months – we're going to put that to great and definitive use as we come out of this period. I believe we'll have a far finer operation coming out of this crisis than going into it.”
“It is time for travel enthusiasts to step up and assist the hospitality industry. They can also use this time to gain benefits which can be utilised at a later date when things improve on the virus issue. Travellers’ money spent under the initiative of ‘Pay now Stay later’ will go a long way in the interest of the Indian hospitality ecosystem as this sector provides jobs to 10 million people. That it will help the travellers themselves as well should be an incentive enough.”
